Most of the year the weather in Orlando is hot and steamy. Walking around all day in the heat would have been a hardship on us and the youngsters in our group. What worked out well for us was to try to be at the theme park as soon as it opened and go on the most popular rides before lunch. In the early afternoons we would usually go back to our resort to shower and rest up a bit. Then later in the afternoon we would go to the theme park where we had made dinner reservations or where we wanted to spend some extra time.

Make sure your group takes regular water breaks. There are plenty of places in the theme parks where you can grab a cold drink along the way. While it is easy to get caught up in the fun and forget to take a break every hour or so heat exhaustion is no joke so plan for some hydration time. We were surprised how refreshing those spray bottles of water could be and when we used one packed with ice water the mist it produced was heavenly.

One idea that worked out well was to pack an empty duffel bag style suitcase in our luggage. For our return trip we loaded it with clothes which left plenty of room in the other suitcases for all those fun souvenirs. We also found that for certain airlines we were able to check our luggage to and from the Disney resort. This was a huge time saver but to take advantage of it remember you need to check your luggage there at least two hours before your return flight's scheduled departure.
